president barack-obama *Contrary to popular belief, President Barack Obama is not black, according to a new study.

In the study, titled “The Next America,” 52 percent of Americans consider Obama mixed-race rather than black. To break it down further, 53 percent of the study’s white participants and 61 percent of Hispanic participants say they considered the president mixed-race.

The Huffington Post reports the purpose of the study, which was conducted by the Pew Research Center, was to explore Americans’ feelings about the country’s changing tapestry, and how perception of race has changed — even when it comes to Obama. The president is a product of an interracial relationship. Based on the “one-drop rule” from years ago, the commander-in-chief would have been classified as Black.

Through the study, the research center provided an in-depth look at two major demographic changes taking place in America — part of the population becoming majority non-white while the other portion is aging — and how these changes are creating a major gap in political ideology.

The study’s findings reveal that by 2060 white people will no longer be a majority. Instead they will represent roughly 43 percent of the population. In addition, the increase in interracial marriages not only directly affects the number of bi-racial babies being born, but it also affects our perception of ethnicity, particularly with regards to the offspring of bi-racial couples.
