*Whether or not you’re a sports fan, or even a Kevin Durant fan, anyone can feel the emotion of a son thanking his single mom for all that she sacrificed to ensure his success.
As previously reported, the Oklahoma City Thunder star received an overwhelming 119 of 125 first-place votes to beat LeBron James and win his first NBA MVP trophy on Tuesday.
The Washington D.C. native accepted the trophy with an emotional speech in which he thanked each of his teammates individually. But he captivated the room when his attention turned toward his mom, Wanda Pratt.
He spoke from the heart and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
“Single parent with two boys by the time you were 21 years old,” Durant said, crying. “Everybody told us we weren’t supposed to be here. We moved from apartment to apartment by ourselves. One of the best memories I had was when we moved into our first apartment. No bed, no furniture, and we just all sat in a room and just hugged each other. We thought we’d made it.”
Watch his remarks about his family (at 0:30) and mom (at 3:02) below. (Scroll down to watch the beginning of the speech.)
