*Detroit, MI – Bankole Thompson, a widely respected multimedia journalist and the editor-in-chief of the Michigan Chronicle, whose work cuts through the double-talk of politicians has accepted the invitation of the Grosse Pointe Democratic Club to serve as the moderator of the Wayne County Executive Candidates Debate/Forum, June 24, 7-9pm at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial, 32 Lake Shore Rd, Grosse Pointe Farms.

The forum which will feature the five major candidates running to become the next Wayne County Executive makes this gathering one of the most influential meetings of the candidates to date because the Grosse Pointe Democratic Club situated in the most affluent city in the state and one of the richest in the country, prides itself as a significant player in Democratic politics in the state both in terms of fundraising and organizing.

The participating candidates are former Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans who is currently leading in the latest poll, incumbent Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, Westland Mayor Bill Wild, State Representative Phil Cavanagh and Wayne County Commissioner Kevin McNamara. All five candidates will face questions from moderator Bankole Thompson on the issues affecting Wayne County, from the troubled pension obligations of county government to their vision for Michigan’s largest county at the forum which is open to the public. Political debates for high political offices mark a significant calling for journalists because the moderator has to earn the trust and respect of the candidates as well as the audience with a track record of journalistic integrity and fairness.

Thompson has been a familiar face in political debates. He has moderated and taken part in some of the most significant debates and forums in the region. For example he was the only journalist who served as a panelist on two of the three televised 2013 Detroit mayoral debates between Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon and former Detroit Medical Center CEO Mike Duggan. He was a panelist in the first televised debate in the general election hosted by CBS-TV62 and in the final debate hosted by WXYZ-ABC Channel 7. He also moderated the last mayoral primary face-off among the candidates before the general election. Bankole Thompson, is a distinguished journalist, author and senior political analyst.
