*Oops, that was rather embarrassing.
If you weren’t paying close attention you may have missed it.
While the legendary singer was accepting his Lifetime Achievement Award, the name “Lionel Ritchie” appeared across the screen. Uh oh, not a good look and just flat out WRONG. Of course his name is correctly spelled Lionel RICHIE.
“I have a little motto that I use and I’m going to pass it on to the artists of today: Soul is a feeling, not a color,” the 65-year-old said as he accepted the award. “Talent is a God-given gift and not a category. And out of the box, out of the box is that magical place where talent—true talent—goes to live and thrive and breathe. And may you never give that up as long as you’re in this business.”
As far as the tribute is concerned, , John Legend performed “Hello” and “Still,” Ledisi sang The Commodores’ “Brick House” and, yes Yolanda Adams was the perfect choice to deliver Lionel’s “Jesus Is Love.”
“After listening to ‘Jesus Is Love,’ I’m glad I sang the song first. Otherwise, I would not be up here. That was absolutely amazing,” Richie told the audience. “Everyone did a great job … These are all the songs that they told me would ruin my career.”
