Angie+Martinez*Now that Angie Martinez has moved from Hot 97 to rival radio station Power 105.1, the “Voice of New York’s” new radio home rolled out the welcome mat for it’s newest acquisition.

Nicole Bitchie reports that Power 105.1’s the Breakfast Club morning show made it known Thursday that Martinez was officially part of the station’s family. Angela Yee, DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God applauded the announcement while praising Martinez as “the queen of hip hop radio.”

“Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls…an addition to our Power 105 team, ‘The Voice of New York,’ the queen of this hip hop radio ish. Legend. Icon. I had the pleasure of working with her before. I’ve seen this woman record her calls, do an interview, run her own board, answer the phones and still do a talk break and I was so impressed. Angie Martinez will be joining the Power 105 family,” a “super excited” DJ Envy said. “I’m super excited. Love Ang. She’s an amazing radio personality, an amazing person. A good heart. A good soul. I can’t wait for her to join the family.”

Envy won’t have to wait long for Martinez’s arrival. The veteran DJ is set to take over Power 105.1’s afternoon drive slot on weekdays from 2 p.m. -6 p.m. starting mid-July. In addition, Martinez’s voice will be heard on Miami’s 103.5 The Beat.

Despite changing stations, Martinez was grateful for her time at Hot 97 as she thanked her former station in a press release for providing her with a solid foundation to establish herself in the world of radio. Nevertheless, Martinez believes the time is to “expand [her] brand.”

“I want to thank, Thea Mitchem, Tom Poleman and Doc Wynter for this incredible opportunity,” she stated in the release. “I’m excited to join Power 105.1 in New York and The Beat in Miami and expand my brand even further in the coming months.”
