The “Get Her Back” singer is slated to open the annual event, which will take place Aug. 9 at Philips Arena in Atlanta. Thicke joins a star-studded line-up of Neighborhood Awards performers, which include Chrisette Michelle, Tamela Mann, India.Arie, Anthony Hamilton, Johnny Gill and The Ray Chew Band.
Created by Steve Harvey and television/radio producer Rushion McDonald, the Ford Neighborhood Awards celebrates everyday men and women who uplift their neighborhoods through their contributions and excellence as local businesses, religious/community leaders, educators, churches, and high schools. Awards given at the event include: Best High School Coach, Best Nail Salon, Best School Teacher, Best Car Wash, Best Church Choir, Best Soul Food Restaurant, Best Barber Shop, Best High School, Best Barbecue Restaurant, Best Beauty Salon, Best Church, and Best Community Leader.
Harvey will be on hand at this year’s Neighborhood Awards to host the 12th annual event’s awards show and four days of activities at the Georgia World Congress Center and Philips Arena from Aug. 7 – 10. Events range from a Stand-Up Comedy Jam hosted by Nephew Tommy, 3-day State Farm 2014 Neighborhood Awards Weekend Expo and the Table Classic Championships hosted by Junior. In addition, the Neighborhood Awards Freedom Friday party will feature performances by KEM and The O’Jays, while the Ford VIP After-Party will boast a performance from Bell Biv DeVoe,
The Steve Harvey Morning Show will broadcast live from the Neighborhood Awards with performances from John Legend and George Tandy Jr. In addition to the musical acts, Holly Robinson Peete, LisaRaye, Keke Palmer, Yolanda Adams and Hill Harper will be among the celebrities appearing at the event to present awards in 12 different categories.
