*Nothing stays the same except change itself.
And that’s exactly what’s happening at ABC’s “The View.” We’re talking change. Big time. Specifically we’re referring to news about Sherri Shepherd. She’s either being pushed out the door or she’s leaving the show on her own. It’s not quite clear at this point which one it is.
“It’s been seven wonderful years on ‘The View’ and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on. I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and [executive producer] Bill Geddie for giving me the opportunity,” Shepherd said in a statement. “I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my ‘View’ family and my fans for supporting me on this journey.”
Shepherd’s exit comes barely a month after the show’s creator, Barbara Walters, said adios and amid talk that Jenny McCarthy – who joined the team about a year ago – is also soon to be gone.
Additionally, TMZ is reporting that Geddie, who’s been with the production from the start,is also heading for the door. Yes, change is in the air at “The View.”
Speaking of TMZ, the celebrity policing site says, via sources, that there’s a pretty good chance Rosie O’Donnell might return and producers are said to be “very interested” in Laila Ali.
Notably, Shepherd didn’t say exactly when she would leave the show, but as we’ve reported, she’s in the middle of some serious personal challenges.
On May 12, she filed from divorce from Lamar Sally, her husband of three years, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The divorce filing came ten days after Sally filed for legal separation, and requested custody of the couple’s unborn child, which will arrive later this year via surrogate.
Shepherd is also battling ex-husband Jeff Tarpley for custody of their nine-year-old son Jeffrey. Tarpley alleged in court papers that Shepherd has neglected their son due to her busy work schedule. Shepherd is scheduled to appear in court opposite Tarpley on July 21. Meanwhile her custody battle with Sally is ongoing.
