*It was supposed to be En Vogue’s “Never Gonna Get It” that the ladies sing during a hilarious scene in “Think Like a Man Too.”
Writers David and Keith Merryman had it in the script, and the actresses – Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union, LaLa Anthony, Meagan Good, Regina Hall and Wendi McLendon-Covey – were all excited to put their stamp on it.
But producer Will Packer, at the last minute, decided to go with BBD’s “Poison.”
“I said, you know what? I felt En Vogue was a little typical,” Packer said during a recent junket for the film. “And with this cast, knowing they could do anything, I would love for them to do something that felt a little counterintuitive.”
Once the BBD song was in place, Tim Story decided to shoot the scene as a real music video within the movie.
“We spent a day shooting that video,” said Packer. “And if it doesn’t work, you’re stuck, because that’s all we did in that scene. It’s not like we had other stuff to cut to. It had to work at that point in the movie, and the response has been really, really good.”
