According to reports, that was the case for the Oscar-winning actor, who was recently seen on Broadway as part of the cast of “A Raisin In the Sun. ” Washington was performing in the production when some audience members started screaming at him.

The “Training Day” entertainer’s co-star, Sophie Okonedo noted that Washington’s fans yell various things at the actor, especially during the scenes that the two had together.

“People would shout out: ‘Don’t, Denzel!’ or ‘You can’t treat her like that!’” Okonedo told NewsOXY. “At one point, Denzel and I have a kiss on stage and a woman shouted out, from the gods, ‘Forget her — I’m up here!’”

Despite the heckling, Washington’s stint in “A Raisin in the Sun” was a hit for the Broadway crowd. Media sources report that many theatergoers, including President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, have traveled to New York City just to see the actor play Walter Younger. Reaction to Washington has been positive, as many have praised him for his work on the stage, despite the heckling.
