The singer took it upon herself to directly address a fan that asked about the rumored tryst on Instagram.
“Heard you and Jay Z had an 11-year affair,” the fan wrote Thursday. “Are you his side-chick or nah?”
“Never did, never was, never will,” Mya replied.
The “My Love is Like…Wo” vocalist’s response is the latest development to occur since the rumor mill ignited with talk of a secret affair between Mya and Jay Z. So much so that the rumor expanded to say the rap mogul, who is married to Beyoncé Knowles, was financially supporting the singer for years.
As she strongly denied the affair to her fan, Mya placed her anger for ruckus raised from the rumor on “Illegitimate, thirsty sources with no facts and that’s the ‘media’ for you – especially today,”
“I play second to no one, pay my own bills, have my own label, own management company, rely on God only and respect myself & marriage too much for nonsense,” she wrote. “False rumors are crafted for ratings & numbers. And miserable, unhappy people need someone to judge to deter the attention away from their own misery and feel better about their miserable lives. If they did it to Jesus, they’ll do it to anyone. God bless.”
Mya’s denial of the affair comes days after talk surfaced about Beyoncé switching lyrics to her song “Resentment” during a performance last Saturday for her “On the Run” tour with Jay Z in Ohio. According to the New York Daily News, Bey wore a “wedding getup” as she sang the tune.
The original lyric for “Resentment,” a song about a woman who was cheated on, is “”been riding with you for six years.” At Saturday’s performance, Beyoncé sang “”been riding with you for 12 years.” With Jay Z and Beyoncé being together for 12 years, speculation instantly came that had people wondering if the former Destiny’s Child member was talking about infidelity inside her own marriage.
