BTS Whitney Houston biopic Yaya Dacosta*Whether Cissy Houston likes it or not, the biopic on her daughter Whitney is moving forward.

Behind-the-scenes footage from Entertainment Tonight shows Yaya DaCosta in character as the late singer introducing Bobby Brown [played by actor Arlen Escarpeta].

Vocally, DaCosta will be lipsynching to Deborah Cox rather than Whitney. The “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” vocalist covered many of Whitney’s songs for the biopic, including the megahit “I Will Always Love You.”

“I kind of shut off all social media because I didn’t want to be distracted by the expectations, the naysayers,” NicoleBitchie.com reports her saying.

While DaCosta settles into playing Whitney, the singer’s continues to voice her opposition to the project. In a statement to ET, Cissy Houston reiterated how Lifetime opted to make the biopic in spite of objections from the Houston family. Bottom line: Cissy just wants her daughter to rest in peace without any complications from those she claims didn’t know Whitney personally.

“Lifetime has chosen to go ahead with the movie about Whitney in spite of my family’s objections. No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby,” Cissy Houston stated. “In the two years since Whitney’s death, many people have stepped forward to speak about their close relationship with her. I find it difficult to believe people who knew and supposedly loved her would participate in a movie about her done by folks who didn’t know her. We are exhausted by the continuing misinformation and comments offered by people who did not know her. Please please let her rest.”

Despite the Houston family’s opposition, the film’s producers and director Angela Bassett maintain their insistence on simply honoring Whitney with the project.
