But things could very well switch up as rival shoe companies are throwing their hat in the ring to get Durant to trade up and go with them instead of continuing with Nike. Among those on the hunt for Durant is Under Amour, which is reportedly offering to pay him as much as $30 million if he signs with them, a person familiar with negotiations revealed to the New York Daily News.
To make it more attractive is the fact that Under Armour is headquartered in Maryland, Durant’s home state.
In addition to Nike and Under Armour, Adidas is talking to Durant. Speculation points towards the company making an offer to the athlete that could rival Under Amour’s.
And with all that comes the guessing game to see if Nike will up their offer to Durant or simply end their business relationship with the basketball star.
Also in question is what will happen to Duran if he signs with Under Armor. According to the Daily News, the signing could affect his decision to be a free agent. Despite having two years left, some media sources already have him returning to Maryland and playing for the Washington Wizards.
