*The last four years have been filled with security checkpoints and sound checks for Avery*Sunshine, as the soulful songstress has seemingly toured non-stop since the release of her self-titled debut album in 2010.
The frequent flyer miles and hours of pouring herself out onstage have paid off as “Call My Name”, the first single from last summer’s The Sunroom has reached the Top-10 on the Urban AC charts and she was recently nominated for the Centric Certified Award at the upcoming Soul Train Music Awards.
The chart-climb and the nomination are a testament to the work she has put in, alongside musical partner Dana Johnson, and the team that makes up the Avery*Sunshine brand. It’s truly been a grassroots effort; she uses the internet to her advantage, staying connected to fans and promoting her appearances well in advance of her arrival. Once you add in that her live show is simply amazing, it’s easy to see how the groundswell of support she’s garnered has been powered by word-of-mouth.
Before she arrives in Las Vegas for the Soul Train Awards, there’s some business on the stage that she has to attend to; Monday night, she’s in New York City at Le Poisson Rouge and in Philadelphia as the featured performer during the Centennial Gala of the Rho Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Fraternity Inc. She hopes to be leaving Vegas with a trophy as she heads for a European tour that will carry her through the remainder of November.
