*Recently, it was revealed award-winning gospel artist James Fortune was arrested and charged with aggravated assault to a family member.
The Fort Bend County, Texas Sheriff’s office confirmed his arrest. He was released on $20,000 bond. But details explaining why the assault occurred and who he assaulted were not released.
Fortune has issued a statement apologizing for his behavior, but he couldn’t go into detail due to legal restrictions.
“I am truly sorry for the negative attention this situation has brought my wife, family, friends and business partners,” he said in a statement. “Because it is a pending legal matter, I cannot comment on what has been reported.”
He added, “I understand the seriousness of this matter and ask that you respect the privacy of my family as we address this together,” Fortune said.
Fortune ending his statement thanking fans for the support. “I would also like to thank my fans for their outpouring of love and support,” he concluded.
This isn’t the first time Fortune was unfortunate enough to get into some domestic trouble with the law. He was accused of abusing his now 17-year-old stepson when he was four years old.
Allegedly, Fortune put the small kid’s hands in a scolding hot water after the little boy colored on a table. He was sued for $5 million in a child abuse lawsuit.
