dan goosen - son & portrait

*There was not an empty seat in the house the other night at St. Francis DeSales Cathedral as some of boxing’s best came out to pay tribute to promoter Dan Goossen.

From the likes of Don King, Bob Arum, Oscar De La Hoya, Jeff Wald, Frank Stallone, Pete Rose, Mr. T, James ” Lights Out” Toney, Chris ” The Nightmare” Arreola, and James Prince ( just to name a few, I could go on and on).

These were just some of those individuals who either worked with or were promoted by Dan that all came out on this memorial night to show their support to Dan’s wife Debbie and his son’s Craig, Chris Max, and Rex.

Also in attendance was Mauricio Suliaman President of the World Boxing Council, Mark Taffett,Tony Walker from HBO Sports as well as Ken Hershman, president of HBO sports; the entire staff of Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank Inc., and I couldn’t count the number of boxing publicists and journalists that were all there to salute this man.

Dan was well liked and admired by many in the ring and out and there’s no question that his impact will have a lasting effect in the boxing world.

Rich Morratta said it best as he spoke fondly of Dan whom he went to Notre Dame High School with,” he was one good man.”
May God’s peace and blessings be upon him.

Coming up next weekend on October 18 out at the StubHub in Carson, Calif., is the much awaited showdown between “Triple GGG” Gennady Golovkin and Marcos Antonio Rubio for Golovkin’s WBA middleweight title. This guy ain’t no joke folks (30-0 with 27 coming by way of knockout) and Rubio who comes into this one with a record of 59-6-1 with 51 coming by way of knockout, will surely be tested by Golovkin even though he’s been around a lot longer. Golovokin is considered by many to be the real middleweight champion in a field of several who hold title belts. This one should be a dandy folks, as I always say, we’ll see what happens.

This will be telecast live on HBO Championship Boxing.
