ariana grande, jessie j,

*Producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins is working with two pop stars on a remake of Brandy and Monica‘s R&B classic duet, “The Boy Is Mine,” according to HITS Daily Double.

This time around it will be Ariana Grande and Jessie J fighting over a guy in the song. Grande and Jessie collaborated and made a hit with Nicki Minaj — “Bang Bang.”

Jerkins is celebrating 20 years in the game with new versions of hit songs he produced, but this time around with new artists performing them.

“Next year is my 20-year anniversary and I’m doing a very special project,” he said. “[With] some originals as well as reimagined hits. So for example, I’ll do the ‘The Boy Is Mine’ with Ariana and Jessie J.”

Stay With Me” singer Sam Smith signed up to re-record one of his idol’s songs — Whitney Houston‘s “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay.”

“Sam told me [that] was the song that made him want to sing,” Jerkins said. “When I asked him if he’d be a part of this project, he was like, ‘No one else can do that song but me!’”

Fans expressed their concern with such a classic being unnecessarily remade, but the question is, how do Brandy and Monica feel about the remake?! Time will tell…
