*Paramount has released the first trailer for director Ava DuVernay’s Martin Luther King Jr. film “Selma.”

David Oyelowo stars as the iconic civil rights leader. The pic tracks King’s struggle to secure voting rights for all people, culminating in the Alabama march from Selma to Montgomery and President Lyndon Johnson’s signing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Starring alongside Oyelowo are Tom Wilkinson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Alessandro Nivola, Giovanni Ribisi Common, Carmen Ejogo, Lorraine Toussaint, with Tim Roth and Oprah Winfrey as Annie Lee Cooper. Paul Webb penned the script.

“Selma” opens in limited release on Christmas Day before going wide on January 9.
