*Gabrielle Union plays a self-absorbed, self-obsessed reality TV star in Chris Rock’s upcoming film “Top Five,” and a little digging below the surface reveals some common ground between the character and the actress.

“With my character, and also with me in real life, it’s an addiction to please, and to want to be liked, and to be validated by other people,” Union said Friday at a press conference for the film in New York.

In the movie, Union’s Erica Long is about to exchange vows with her fiancé Andre Allen (Rock), a comedian-turned-film star who is desperately trying to reinvent himself as a serious thespian.

The wedding, of course, will be televised. It’s expected to be the biggest media event of the year, but it also threatens to derail Andre’s attempts to be taken seriously as an actor.
