*Lauryn Hill‘s performance at the Voodoo Experience Music Festival was cut short due to her own tardiness to the Saturday night concert.
Fans weren’t happy with her performance being cut short, either. According to Billboard, fans felt the festival management disrespected Hill by dimming the lights on her while she performed.
A rep. for the management said, “things happen. Lauryn Hill was late,” the rep told the audience — explaining she can’t take away time from the other acts.
Nevertheless, she was given another chance to perform. It was later that night on a smaller stage, but yet again, she was late.
When she did take the stage, she didn’t make any acknowledgement of her tardiness or her earlier performance being cut short.
But this wasn’t the first time Hill was late to one of her performances. During the summer, she was scheduled to perform at the House of Blues in Chicago at 10:30 p.m., but she didn’t go up until 11:20 p.m.
A fan called her out on her tardiness, but she wasn’t having it. She gave that fan a piece of her mind.
“I do this because I love it, not because I owe you anything,” she said to the fan on stage. “You can say whatever you want. I don’t give a rat’s ass.”
