*Dang, talk about putting your foot in your mouth and exposing your lack of empathy and understanding of the very people you’re chastising.

That’s the position a lot of folks have placed Lincoln University President Robert R. Jennings (pictured above) into after insensitive comments he made came to light via a YouTube video posting.

On the video, Jennings is speaking about recent incidents on the college’s campus where some women supposedly made false rape accusations against male companions who had spurned them after their sexual encounters.

Jennings made his remarks during the university’s annual women-only convocation on Sept. 16 at the main campus near Oxford, Pennsylvania. A four-minute video clip was uploaded to YouTube on Nov. 1. The video begins with Jennings declaring that if women don’t respect themselves, men won’t either.

“We will use you up, if you allow us to use you up,” Jennings said. “Well, guess what? When it comes time for us to make that final decision, we’re going to go down the hall and marry that girl with the long dress on. That’s one we’re going to take home to mama.”

Here’s the crux of Jennings’ comments that’s got a lot of folks all riled up:

“When you allege that somebody did something of that nature to you, you go to jail. I don’t care how close they are to finishing the degree, their whole life changes overnight. Why am I saying all this, ladies? I’m saying this because, first and foremost, don’t put yourself in a situation that would cause you to be trying to explain something that really needs no explanation had you not put yourself in that situation.”

Rev. James Thomas, a parent of one of the students was not pleased with the school president’s comment either. He said they didn’t show empathy for the victims of sexual assault.

“There had to have been at least one young lady in that room who had been the victim of sexual assault who had not reported it,” Thomas said. “And there was nothing that was said by the president that would have given any comfort.”

One has to wonder just where Jennings is coming from on this issue.

“Why am I saying all this, ladies? I’m saying this because, first and foremost, don’t put yourself in a situation that would cause you to be trying to explain something that really needs no explanation had you not put yourself in that situation.” – See more at:
