*A St. Louis woman and mother of two, Lakechia Schonta Stanley, was sentenced almost 80 years behind bars for physically abusing her two daughters, who were 8 and 10 at the time.
Prosecutors convinced a jury to convict Schonta Stanley because they were able to prove she brutalized her children with “systematic torture.” The horrendous abuse included beating them with a baseball bat, ripping out electrical cords and using them to flog her preteens, waterboarding, and manhandling the girls under freezing hot and cold showers.
At her sentencing, Schonta Stanley was described as “psychotic” and confessed to the inhumane acts on her children last Friday. She was charged with 34 felony counts of abuse, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
The incidents started in 2011, when her daughter, then 10-years-old, admitted to her school librarian that her bruises occurred when her mom had beat her with a baseball bat because she neglected to clean the family’s kitchen. She also told school administrators that her sister, two years younger than her, was beaten because she took too long in the shower.
Incredibly, when the librarian touched the girl’s arm, she found that it was cold and unresponsive. The child was taken to the ER, where doctors said that the beating was so severe that the blood had clotted and constricted to the limb.
“The scarring on these two girls is the worst scarring I have ever seen on children from repeated whippings from objects,” commented Detective Robert Jauer in the probable cause statement, according to The Spread It.
“What the defendant did to her own children far exceeds the definition of child abuse and amounts to systematic torture,” assistant circuit attorney Tanja Engelhardt added. “She was supposed to be their mother, the one person they could trust. Instead she became a symbol of betrayal and fear, using every tool at her disposal to beat and torture her own innocent children.”
If you’re wondering where was the children’s father, according to Examiner.com, Alexander Rui Stanley (pictured above), 30, also pleaded guilty to joining his wife in the horrific abuse, and was sentenced last year to 42 felony counts of abuse. He received 160 years.
