*Comic book fans can be intimidating, and Jada Pinkett Smith has run into her share of opinionated Batman connoisseurs while playing boss lady Fish Mooney in Fox’s “Gotham.”

“The fans are so enthusiastic, and they’re so smart, and they’re very clear,” Smith told us, emphasizing the word “clear.” “They know what this world is, and so it’s been a lot of fun to have that kind of intimate communication with the fans. They are what makes it the most fun.”

The fact that Batman diehards have embraced the freshman drama -enough to earn a full-season pickup from Fox – suggests that the show gets it right. It’s an impressive feat considering the story deals with multiple characters in the Bat-mosphere before they blossomed into the villains we’ve come to know and love.
