Jamie Foxx as William “Will” Stacks in Annie

*Turns out Jamie Foxx’s character in Columbia’s “Annie” update isn’t just based on Daddy Warbucks.

As previously reported, William “Will” Stacks is a contemporary, melanin-infused version of wealthy capitalist Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks from the 1924 comic strip “Little Orphan Annie.”

Foxx’s Stacks is a billionaire New York politician who made his fortune in the cell phone game. He’s running a disastrous campaign for mayor when he literally runs into Annie (Quvenzhané Wallis) and is prodded by his staff to use the orphan in photo ops to win votes.

Of course his opportunistic heart eventually begins to melt.

During interviews for the film in New York, Foxx told us that Stacks reminded him of another mogul/entrepreneur from the Big Apple…a certain black millionaire who just punched Drake in Miami.
