*Anyone wondering whether Johnny Gill is gay or not can take note that the singer – as far as he’s concerned – has put the talk to rest as he admitted to taking a lie detector test.
Gill confessed to what he did during an appearance on The Breakfast Club. According to the New Edition vocalist, it wasn’t the public who motivated him to do it, but the girl he was dating at the time.
In addition to the gay rumors, Gill compared his situation to Bill Cosby’s as well as discussed new music, the status of the New Edition movie, Gerald Levert‘s death and gay rumors surrounding him and Eddie Murphy.
Highlights from the interview are below:
Taking a Lie Detector Test:
Johnny Gill: It wasn’t about the people I wanted to prove it to. I was dating my ex and I remember her coming back to me one day “I’m hearing all this stuff about you and Eddie [Murphy]…” and I was like “do you believe this” and she goes, “no.” So my thing was I’m not laying in bed next to a woman that I’m supposed to be married to and worried about are you sitting here and having any doubts. For her, I wanted to make sure there was no question. I wrote down questions for her like “ask anything you want.” I wrote down questions as well. We laid it all that and she laid there when we got the results back and said, “I never doubted you.” I sat her down and said, “people talk.”
On Bill Cosby’s Situation vs. His:
Johnny Gill: Bill Cosby going through people going through. It’s a number of people coming out. All that stuff, rumors about me. Show me one or a string of people coming out. That’s bull and if they do. I’ll whip their you know what.
If There Was A Strain on His Relationship With Eddie:
Johnny Gill: Never. I’ve offered many times. Anybody that felt or you think I’m that way, I’m approachable and if I walk away on two feet, I’ll be whatever you want me to be.
