*Presidential privilege can truly throw a wrench into a planned event. Fortunately for Natalie Heimel and Edward Mallue Jr., their wedding proved to be more memorable, thanks to President Barack Obama.
According to a Bloomberg.com report, the commander-in-chief issued a personal apology over the weekend to Heimel and Mallue, who are captains in the Army, after his golf game forced them to find a new location for their wedding. Obama is in Hawaii for his annual vacation.
The couple was to be married Saturday at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii. However, Heimel and Mallue’s plans were disrupted as they were told that in light of Obama coming to golf at the location, they would have to move their wedding, which was scheduled for the next day
“It was kind of ironic they got the letter from them and then, within hours, they were told they had to be moved due to him,” Mallue’s sister told Bloomberg. “It was emotional, especially for her — she’s the bride and in less than 24 hours they had to change everything they had planned.”
As it turned out, things worked out for the better. K Bay Catering Naile Brennan manager told Bloomberg that Mallue and Heimel managed to move their ceremony to another location on the base that is “much prettier. With Obama’s history of visiting the base, Brennan mentioned that K Bay Catering prepares for last minute changes to events on the course.
When it was all said and done, Mallue and Heimel were able to bounce back and even invited Obama to the wedding after he personally called the bride upon learning about the forced wedding relocation. Unfortunately, the president would not meet the couple face to face as he responded with a letter to them saying he would unfortunately be unable to attend the event.
Nevertheless, the lack of Obama’s presence didn’t do anything to prevent the happiness of the wedding.
“He apologized and congratulated them,” the sister shared. “We were all there, it was perfect.”
