*British actor David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) does a stellar job as Martin Luther King Jr. in Paramount Pictures’ presentation of Selma, a drama based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights march led by James Bevel played by Muli-Grammy Award winner Common (LUV). Selma arrived at theaters on Christmas and is directed by Image Award nominated Ava Duverney (I Will Follow).

Selma reminds us of the cost of freedom. We were reminded again that even though there was a law working on our behalf, such as the voting rights law, states and individuals in seats of political power still denied you. Martin Luther King Jr., with death threats and the deaths of Kennedy and Malcolm X just three week prior, led the protest walk for Bevel- which he was told not to by not only the governor but the President of the United States as well. Carmen Ejogo (Sparkle) plays an elegant Coretta Scott King trying to handle the duties of being the wife of a national spokesperson for peace in a world that is not so peaceful.

The cast in the Pathe’ film that is produced in association with Cloud Eight Film, Harpo Film, Plan B Entertainment makes the movie a classic already. Some of the long list of cast members include Wendell Pierce (Horrible Bosses) as Hosea Williams; Emmy Award winner Martin Sheen (“West Wing”) as Frank Minis Johnson; Academy Award nominated Tim Roth (“The Incredible Hulk”) as George Wallace; Academy Award nominated Tom Wilkinson (Fury) as Lyndon B. Johnson; Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. (Red Tails) as Fred Gray; Nigel Thatch as Malcolm X, Dylan Baker as J. Edgar Hoover, Andre Holland as Andrew Young, multi-Grammy Award nominated Ledisi as Mahalia Jackson; Oprah (The Butler) as Annie Lee Cooper; Emmy Award winner Niecy Nash (“The Soul Man”) as Richie Jean, and Colman Domingo as Ralph Abernathy.

Selma is Rated PG-13 and was written by Paul Webb, and produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Christian Colson, and Oprah Winfrey. Log onto www.SelmaMovie.com to watch the trailer or for more information.
