EMTs transport shooting victim rapper Beanie Sigel from a house on Spruce Avenue in Plesantville, Friday Dec. 5, 2014, where he and another man were wounded.

*There are conflicting reports about the condition of rapper Beanie Sigel after he was shot early this morning in South New Jersey and rushed to the hospital.

MTV reported that his injuries were not life-threatening, but NBC Philadelphia is now saying that Beanie is in critical condition:

Sigel, whose real name is Dwight Grant, was hit in the back, his attorney Fortunato Perri, Jr. told NBC10. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and is currently in surgery. Police originally believed Sigel was shot in the stomach.

Another man was injured in the altercation, but was not shot, police said. He is being questioned by detectives.

Perri, Jr. said Sigel had just returned home from dropping his kids off at school when he came upon some sort of physical altercation near his house. The attorney said it appears Sigel was not the intended victim.

According to TMZ, the second victim is refusing to talk.

Here’s the account from Press of Atlantic City:

Police arrived at the intersection of Spruce and Somerset avenues at about 9:25 a.m., and found Sigel shot in the torso.

Police believe Sigel had been at a family house. Sigel’s wife Michelle is the daughter of local Imam Umar Salahuddin.

When Salahuddin’s son appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court on a gun charge, Sigel came to court to speak on his behalf.

A man was taken into custody after police chased a car that appeared to be related to the shooting. His name has not been released pending charges.

Sigel, 40, was taken to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he was undergoing surgery. His condition was not immediately available.

A second man was injured at the scene, but not shot, according to police. He refused medical treatment.

According to TMZ, police believe that a physical altercation took place before the shooting, “but cops are waiting to interview Beanie for more info. At press time, there were no suspects.”

The conflicting reports are surfacing in the absence of any confirmed information from the hospital, per the family’s request. A reporter with the Philadelphia Inquirer tweeted this:

As for this picture that has been posted with some online reports… 1205-beanie-sigel-twitter-3

MissInfo is reporting that it’s a dated photo “from a confirmed friend of Beanie’s, @Pawn2KingCMD who tweeted it in response to @DragonflyJonez questions about the shooting…There were reactions that the photo was outdated and this “friend” has since deleted the tweet. What a terrible way to mislead and give false hope to fans. We fell for it as well.”
