*In praising his co-stars of the film “Black or White,” Anthony Mackie has revealed a rather dubious practice that happened to him on a past film set.

The 36-year-old actor and veteran of close to 50 films says that some of his award winning co-stars in the past have pulled him to the side and told him to temper his performances, fearing he may inadvertently “show them up” in a scene.

However, the set of writer-director Mike Binder’s “Black or White” had no such behavior from its Oscar winning stars Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer.

Listen below:

In the film, opening Friday (Jan. 30), Mackie plays the attorney for Spencer’s character Rowena, who is attempting to wrench custody of her biracial grandchild from his white grandfather Elliot (Kevin Costner).

Mackie’s character goes all out to paint Elliot as a racist to win the case.
