George Zimmerman Denies Throwing Wine Bottle at Ex-Girlfriend

george-zimmerman*Once again, George Zimmerman is at the center of another incident that brings out the authorities.

The Associated Press cites a police report that was released Monday which states that Zimmerman became angry with his ex-girlfriend and threw a wine bottle at her. The former neighborhood watchman denied the ex-girlfriend’s claim and disputed her accusation that he destroyed her cell phone last week. In Zimmerman’s eyes, he was only trying to prevent the ex-girlfriend from entering his home.

The AP noted that Zimmerman was arrested Friday in Lake Mary and charged with aggravated assault. He was ultimately released Saturday on $5,000 bond.

According too the report, the incident took place last week. Upon hearing the sound of glass shattering officers patrolling the neighborhood where Zimmerman lives saw the ex-girlfriend drive out of the driveway. The authorities ended up pulling her over for a traffic stop a few streets over because she didn’t have her lights on.

The ex-girlfriend told officers that Zimmerman became angry after she told him she didn’t want to take their relationship further. She added that they also argued over a painting she had that Zimmerman wanted returned. The ex-girlfriend went on to state that Zimmerman made threats and threw the wine bottle, which didn’t hit her.

According to detectives, the ex-girlfriend was described as “extremely emotional, crying, mad and upset” and became reluctant to cooperate with them when she realized that officers might be conducting an investigation. She labeled her former boyfriend as “that psycho, George Zimmerman” and said several times that she should have known better than to get involved with him.

Zimmerman’s former girlfriend, whose name is redacted, told investigators that she had had an “intimate relationship” with him that had been going on since the end of last year. The report stated that the relationship between the former couple started at a time when, according to the ex-girlfriend, she was emotionally vulnerable.”

The police report further noted that Zimmerman was arrested at his house on Friday, four days after the confrontation. Detectives with the case said in the report that Zimmerman refused to come to the door for more than two hours despite their repeated knocking and them hearing the television on and a dog barking.

The incident eventually came to close when Zimmerman came outside after police officers agreed to allow him to keep his attorney on his cell phone with him while he was interviewed, according to the report.

Zimmerman’s arrest is the latest incident involving him and law enforcement since he was acquitted in 2013 for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin. There is no word at this time from the Justice Departmen regarding whether it will file federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman.

Despite his acquittal, Zimmerman has managed to stay in the public eye with a series of encounters with the law that range from traffic violations to an incident involving his estranged wife to being arrested on charges of aggravated assault, battery and criminal mischief after his then-girlfriend said he pointed a gun at her face during an argument, smashed her coffee table and pushed her out of the house they shared.
