Larry Wilmore Marks Successful Launch with 963,000 ‘The Nightly Show’ Viewers

larry-wilmore*Larry Wilmore can notch the successful launch of Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore” to his credit.

Deadline.com reports the show attracted 963,000, viewers watching live or the same day on Monday night. Broken down, Wilmore’s audience amounted to: 577,000 in the 18-49 demo, 349,000 in the 18-34 age bracket, and 465,000 were aged 25-54 – aka the news demo.

Although “The Nightly Show” fell short of Stephen Colbert‘s 1.167 million viewers for the calendar year in the timeslot, the show came out much better than the 565,000 viewers “@midnight” has been averaging as it filled the void left by Colbert’s exit and “The Nightly Show”’s launch in the spot following the “The Daily Show.”

To compare against Wilmore’s show, “The Colbert Report” scored the following audience in the same demographics: 630,000 watchers in the demo, 365,000 watchers aged 18-34 and 539,000 watchers in the news demo. For “@midnight” that show collected 391,000 demo viewers while coming close Wilmore with 268,000 18-34-year-old viewers and 314,000 viewers in the news demo.

Deadline noted that more revealing rating numbers for Wilmore will the number of viewers tuned on Tuesday and Wednesday, in light of “The Nightly Show” gaining attention with its second episode being entirely devoted to the allegations against Bill Cosby. Among the those tuned in were former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, who had nothing but high praise for the show.
