New Video: The Jack Moves ‘Doublin’ Down’

The Jack Moves 2

*Wax Poetics magazine has become an institution for those who love to dig in the crates, as well as the music lover who wants reporting that appeals to a simpler time in life, a simpler time in music. In keeping with this theme, the magazine expanded operations to include a record label, which through a recent deal with RED Distribution, is looking to reach beyond their circulation with a brand of music that throws us all back.

The first release of the new partnership is The Jack Moves, a duo who combines classic soul and hip hop, with a 2015 feel. They’re new single “Doublin’ Down” is a smooth groove that elicits the feel of a “red light party” and cruising the streets with a booming system. The duo, made up of singer and multi-instrumentalist Zee Desmondes and drummer Teddy Powell, met in New York’s vaunted skate hangout Tompkins Square Park and bonded through a shared love of music. That connection was based primarily in hip hop, but grew deeper as time went on and the classic soul Powell used as a foundation for his beats appealed to Desmondes more and more.

After working the music scene in NYC and attracting the attention of Wax Poetics Records, the two focused on their sound and crafted an album that’s both, fresh and an ode to their influences. The first offering is “Doublin’ Down”, check out the video below and be prepared for much more from The Jack Moves and Wax Poetics Records in 2015.
