Nicci Gilbert Speaks Out On Gun Incident on ‘R&B Divas Atlanta’ Set

Nicci Gilbert*The reported cancellation of “R&B Divas Atlanta” is looking to be a hidden blessing for Nicci Gilbert, who detailed how one of the show’s other cast members pulled a gun on her husband.

According to the Brownstone singer, the incident, which occurred during the final day of filming for Season 2 of “R&B Divas Atlanta,” was the final straw in a tumultuous relationship with the show and its producers, Think Factory Media.

“The straw that broke the camel’s back was the night another cast member screamed I was dead over and over and 10 mins later another cast member drew a gun on my husband on set while Think Factory Media’s camera’s kept rolling. After that incident, which could have resulted in me losing my husband, my mind, body and spirit were completely broken,” Gilbert said in a statement provided to EURweb by her publicist.

Gilbert’s revelation comes amid reports of several “R&B Divas Atlanta” cast members being notified of the show’s cancellation. In a message sent to AlwaysAList, a TV One spokesperson stated “the network has made no definitive decision as to the future of ‘R&B Divas Atlanta.’”

In her statement, Gilbert revealed that the only people who checked on her and her husband following the incident were her fellow castmates Keke Wyatt and Faith Evans. As for keeping the incident to herself, Gilbert admitted to wanting to “protect the franchise” rather than look out for her personal safety.

“Now that the franchise is in jeopardy of cancellation and things have gotten way out of control I have to speak against producers who continue to perpetuate hostility,” she said while opening up about the consequences of her actions.

“Because I have chosen to speak up about these incidents Think Factory has chosen to withhold all of my executive producer salary. I’ve had a long very expensive legal battle just to get the money they owe me as creator producer of “R&B DIVAS ATL & R&B DIVAS LA.”

Although she continued to receive onscreen credit as the creator and executive producer of “R&B Divas,” Gilbert’s publicist, Lynn Jeter,  added that her client hasn’t been paid since 2013. In addition to financial despair, Jeter mentioned the show taking a physical toll on Gilbert with displaying “all of the symptoms of a mental breakdown, via the incident with the gun as well as complaints of insomnia and viral bullying.

“What started with good intentions among legendary singers rebuilding their careers quickly turned to raging emotional fighting over the simplest things that instantly made for good reality TV but negatively impacted Nicci and her “R&B Divas” castmates’ ancillary opportunities,” a statement read while mentioning Gilbert’s ongoing legal battle with her former partners and network.

Despite the drama, Gilbert stated that she has nothing but goodwill for her reality TV co-stars.

“This has less to do with ‘Hollywood Divas’ than people are reporting,” she said in reference to the “R&B Divas” spin-off. ‘I wish the best for all the ladies and I hope they understand this isn’t about me as much as it is about stopping a pattern of destruction and helping prevent further.”
