*Twenty years ago, Christopher Darden was coming off losing what many termed “the trial of the century” as O.J. Simpson was acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.
And while bitter feelings were present during that time, those emotions have been put to rest nowadays as the 58-year-old former prosecuting attorney enjoys a peaceful life away from the spotlight.
“I was devastated and decimated by the trial,” Darden shared on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” “I don’t think I’m so much as bitter. Now, I think I’m angry,” he says. “I mean, I couldn’t be angry back then. I couldn’t be pissed off, because I’m a prosecutor. But now, I’m just Chris Darden. Now I can just be pissed off.”
While the O.J. trial dominated the news and put him on the public radar during that time, Darden admits that recognition comes few and far between currently.
“Sometimes I get recognized as the O.J. Simpson prosecutor,” he says while joking that, “People say, ‘Oh, that’s Darden. Oh, he’s put on weight in 20 years!'”
Overall, Darden stated that he’s tried to move on from the O.J. trial. He’s a married father of three children with his wife Marcia, whom he’s been with for 17 years.
“I have the smartest family anyone could have,” he says proudly. “My children are brilliant children.”
Professionally, Darden continues to practice law and indulge in writing.
“I’m a criminal law defense attorney,” he says. “And I write a little bit here and there.”
“Oprah: Where Are They Now?” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET, on OWN. The show will return with all-new episodes in February. To see Darden’s interview, check out the video below:
