Octavia Spencer Doesn’t Believe ‘Selma’ Was Snubbed

Octavia Spencer

*Despite the uproar over “Selma” supposedly being snubbed by the Academy for this year’s Oscars, Octavia Spencer believes differently.

During a sit-down interview with HipHollywood.com, the “Black or White” star weighed in on the situation, as she seemed to think folks may be overreacting with talk of “Selma” being completely overlooked.

“I don’t understand what that’s about. The film was not overlooked,” Spencer said. “It received a Best Picture and a Best Song nomination. It is what it is.”

“I’m thrilled for everyone that has received a nomination though, it’s hard to get: trust me,” the past Oscar winner added.

Spencer’s comments come amid a severe lashing the Academy took for not nominating “Selma” director Ava DuVernay for Best Director and actor David Oyelowo for Best Actor, despite the pair of nominations the film earned. As a result, many feel this year’s Oscars ceremony is white washed.
