Psych Evaluation Ordered for Boxer Jermain Taylor

Original

*An Arkansas judge has ordered boxer Jermain Taylor to undergo a psychiatric evaluation following a string of arrests and strange behavior – the latest his firing of a gun during a Martin Luther King Day parade.

Taylor’s own attorneys had asked the judge to move the 36-year-old to a state hospital for a full mental evaluation, according to TMZ.

As previously reported, Taylor pulled a gun on a family at an MLK Day parade in Little Rock, Arkansas and threatened to shoot the couple and their children before the woman was able to knock the gun away.

The athlete is charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a minor. Prosecutors believe he is a danger to himself and others.

According to TMZ, Taylor somewhat acknowledged that he fired the gun and blamed his outburst on the fact that several kids at the parade did not have candy.

The results of Taylor’s mental evaluation are scheduled to be presented to the court in April.

“Everybody is saying this isn’t the Jermain Taylor they know,” Taylor’s attorney told ArkansasOnline.com. “We’re trying to figure out who in the heck it is.”
