*Steve Harvey could not stop the tears on Friday, outdoing his previous displays of emotion on live television for a special birthday episode of his talk show.

It has been a tradition for the producers of “The Steve Harvey Show” to surprise him on his birthday – which is Saturday – but on his final show of the week the unexpected appearance of his entire family was just too much for him.

From the moment his wife Marjorie and his four children Brandi, Karli, Wynton and Broderick Jr. and three step-children Morgan, Lori and Jason walked out on stage with a giant birthday cake with 58 on it, Harvey started to cry.

As each of his children paid tribute to him, the entertainer got more and more emotional. Thanking his family – who had flown in from different parts of the country – the star could barely keep it together.

Through tears he said: “When I’m done, I want you all to just have remembered that somebody cared more about you than himself. I will defend your honor until I die. This is the greatest moment I’ve ever had. I’m very proud to be your father.”

Explaining to ET why he was emotional the comedian said some days he feared he would never make it to 58.

He said in the pre-recorded segment: “A lot of days I probably didn’t think I was going to see 58 or 48.There were days where I was feeling shaky about 38, so I feel pretty fortunate. I wake up every day – for the first 5 to 10 minutes – saying, ”Thank you.”’

While his family got the tears going, they were kept flowing when it when it was revealed his former street in Cleveland, East 112 St, had been renamed Steve Harvey Way.

Seeing his mother’s house he once again burst into tears: “I learned everything I know about survival on that block.”

But Steve’s producers were not done there.

The host actually doubled over in tears with the appearance of Bruce Ayers, the owner of the Stardome comedy club, which gave him his first headlining act in 1989.

Unable to even look at him, Steve said: “He was the first guy – him and his wife [Che Che] – that believed in me.”
