‘Three Times a Lady’ Stage Play Makes National Debut In L.A.

unnamed (5)*Los Angeles, CA —  Dr. Gloria Morrow, playwright and producer of the mega hit play, “The Things That Make Men Cry” premieres her second stage play, “Three Times a Lady” at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre January 8‑11, 2015.

The story centers around the life and marriage of Dr. Viola Stafford (Denise Dowse), as she comes to grips with her husband Bill’s (Alex Morris) sudden and staggering revelation– news that will change their lives forever.  Viola and Alex, along with Viola’s best friends, the flower child Wanda (Karen Bankhead) and the DIVA Rose (Kellita Smith) will take you on an emotional rollercoaster throughout the play.  Dr. Stevens (Derek Shaun) will be a delightful surprise who brings order to the chaotic lives of Viola and Alex.

“Three Times a Lady”  is directed by NAACP Theater Award Nominee (Best Director) Zadia Ife, and cast by Jeannine Fisher of Jeannine Fisher Casting.  Steven Wayne of Siblatha Music is the Musical Director.  The play stars veteran actress Denise Dowse (The Call, Ray, Beverly Hills 90210, Coach Carter) as Dr. Viola Stafford, and co-stars Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), Alex Morris (Guess Who), Derek Shaun (Black Angels Over Tuskegee) and Karen Bankhead (Boston Common).

Dr. Gloria is one of the nation’s leading clinical psychologists, having devoted her early career to teaching students in undergraduate and graduate psychology programs.  She has shared her expertise on topics including depression, anxiety, marriage and relationship issues and on a variety of subjects relative to people of color from all ethnic backgrounds.  Now as a playwright, that legacy continues.

Dr. Gloria will also honor playwright Brandy Burks as the newest recipient of the Rev. Harold and Henrietta Phillips Theater Arts Award which is given to trailblazers who produce plays that entertain, inspire, and educate the community.  Ms. Burks will be the second Producer/Writer/Director to receive the award.  Last year’s recipient, Don B. Welch, will present the award to Ms. Burks at the Black-Tie Red Carpet Premiere of “Three Times a Lady” on Friday, January 9.

“Three Times a Lady” is sponsored by Globo Productions & The Kennedy Austin Foundation, and opens Thursday, January 8th and runs through Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Barnsdall Gallery Theater located at 4800 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA  90027.  A Black-Tie Red Carpet Affair will be hosted onFriday January 9th.  Tickets are available at www.itsmyseat.com
