*Could Peter Parker not be involved in Spider-Man’s inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
According to TheWrap.com’s Jeff Sneider, this could be the case as he believes the untitled new Spider-Man movie may feature an African-American or Latino instead of a white man.
“Listen, this is not set in stone guys, but I’m telling you right now, Spider-Man’s not going to be white,” Sneider said at a recent Meet the Movie Press session. “Spider-Man’s not going to be white. I’m 95% sure. Spider-Man’s going to be most likely black. But there’s a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure, not white,” he explained.
Sneider’s comments conflict with a previous report that mentioned Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman being linked to play the webslinger as well as suggesting the upcoming move will be set in high school.
In the most recent Spider-Man movies, the character has been Parker. Earlier this month, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced a licensing deal that would allow Spider-Man to appear in Marvel’s movie world. As a result, fans have been speculating about the new film as well as its possible cast.
Although Parker is well-known to moviegoers and comic book readers as Spider-Man, AceShowbiz.com notes that many fans are excited to see Miles Morales on the big screen.
Created by comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli, Morales is Spider-Man in Marvel’s Ultimate universe of comics. He first appeared in Ultimate Fallout #4 (August 2011) after Parker’s death. Morales is the product of a an African-American father and a Puerto Rican mother.
Like Parker, he is a geek who gains his powers from a spider bite.
As it stands now, the new Spider-Man is set to debut in a Marvel movie, possibly “Captain America: Civil War“, before appearing in his own solo movie which will be released on July 28, 2017.
