*Springfield, Mass. — In conjunction with Black History Month, a new campaign launched this month invites Americans to discover their past and look towards the legacy that they want to leave. Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company’s (MassMutual) #JourneyOfYou campaign is collecting stories of the past to inform the future.
Visitors are encouraged to view shared stories online—including blog posts and articles from prominent African-Americans—recounting how their family members have inspired them and the legacy that they want to leave for their children. The inspirational collection of personal experiences can serve as a catalyst to get Americans sharing their own personal stories about their families’ journeys and thinking about planning their legacies for the next generation.
Nationally known and respected leaders in the African American community participating through a partnership with TheRoot.com include:
• Hill Harper, author, scholar, actor and one of the stars of the newly released film, The Boy Next Door
• Rob Hardy, award-winning author, producer and founder of Rainforest films, the production company behind Think Like a Man Too
• Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Harvard professor and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker
“There is no better way to recognize African-American history and resolve this Black History Month than to celebrate the successes of individual families and appreciate the unique and diverse picture that they present of the past, present and future of the African-American experience,” said Evan Taylor, Director of African American Market Development at MassMutual.
