*Alfre Woodard played hostess to this year’s Pre-Oscar party celebrating Black women in film in the penthouse at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, according to HipHollywood.
“It’s all my sistah’s and we don’t ever get to see each other,” Woodard said. “Maybe one person coming and going, so everyone really looks forward to this day.”
Viola Davis, Angela Bassett, Rosario Dawson, Zoe Saldana, Aisha Tyler and Kerry Washington were among the Black actresses in attendance.
“This event is always one of my favorite events every year,” said Washington who is also an Oscar presenter this year. “It’s just about girls loving girls and I’m just thrilled to be here.”
Every year Black women in film get together prior to the Academy Awards and celebrate each other’s talents. This year Woodard honored “Selma” director Ava DuVernay and “Belle” actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
“It is women who have been nominated for the Oscar before in the acting category and some in a perfect world who should have been,” Woodard added. “But I didn’t want Ava to go unheralded this year because she did such amazing work as a film maker.”
