dangelo (saturday night live)

*After a 15-year hiatus, fans were ready to see D’Angelo take center stage again. The R&B crooner had quite the comeback with his first appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”

He performed on “SNL” to promote his new album and third effort, “Black Messiah.” His set list included “Really Love” and “The Charade.”

The former is the album’s current single and a fan favorite love ballad. He opened his set with the hit. But afterwards, he got political.

“The Charade” tackles some of the issues the black community face in everyday life — including the album’s overall themes of police brutality, black violence and social injustice.

“All we wanted was a chance to talk, instead we only got outlined in chalk,” he repeatedly sang the lyrics to the socially-conscious track.

He wore a hoodie in tribute to Trayvon Martin while his band, the Vanguard, wore “Black Lives Matter” and “I Can’t Breathe” t-shirts in honor of Mike Brown and Eric Garner, respectively.
