Holland-Dozier-Holland to Receive Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

*Legendary Motown Records songwriters and producers Holland-Dozier-Holland will be the newest celebrities to receive a star Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The trio, comprised of Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland, will be honored with the Walk of Fame’s 2,543rd star on Friday (Feb. 13). The event will take place at 11:30 a.m. near the Live Nation Building at 7070 Hollywood Boulevard.

Hollywood Chamber President and CEO Leron Gubler will emcee the Walk of Fame ceremony, will be streamed live exclusively on the Hollywood Walk of Fame website. Guest speakers include Motown founder Berry Gordy and the Supremes’  Mary Wilson.

“We are so happy to honor these musical geniuses with their well-deserved star on the Walk of Fame very fittingly during Black History Month,” Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said in a statement. “Their music has and will continue for decades to be a part of American music history.”

Holland-Dozier-Holland are best known for writing and producing many of Motown’s classic tunes, including “Stop! In the Name of Love” and “You Can’t Hurry Love” by the Supremes, “Heat Wave” and “Jimmy Mack” by Martha and the Vandellas, “Reach Out I’ll Be There” and “Baby I Need Your Loving” by the Four Tops, and “Can I Get a Witness” and “How Sweet It Is to Be Loved by You” by Marvin Gaye, among others.

According to a press release, which noted that more than 50 of Motown’s most memorable songs can be attributed to the trio, which produced hits for nearly every act on Motown’s family of labels before leaving the label in 1968.

That year, the trio found their own record label, Invictus/Hot Wax and continued generating hits with Freda Payne’s “Band of Gold,” Chairman of the Board’s “Give Me Just a Little More Time,” and the Honey Cones’ “Want Ads.”

In 1988, Holland, Dozier and Holland were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, followed by an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

The BMI Icons recently reunited for the first time in more than 30 years to write the score for the musical version of “The First Wives Club,” which is based on the best-selling novel and 1996 film. Featured in the score are brand-new songs as well as Holland-Dozier-Holland classics “Reach Out I’ll Be There,” “Stop! In the Name of Love” and “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch).”

The trio’s Walk of Fame star ceremony comes as “The First Wives Club” musical gears up for its pre-Broadway world premiere run on Feb. 17 at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago.
