Kanye Blames ‘Voices in My Head’ For Invading Beck’s Grammy Moment (Watch)

Kanye-West*By now, most of us have some kind of thought regarding Kanye West’s attempt to recreate his infamous bumrush of Taylor Swift’ s moment at the 2009 MTV Video Awards when he tried to do the same to Beck.

But you’ll be glad to know that Ye had a solid reason for almost going through with it: the voices that were in his head.

“Right when that happened, everybody was looking at me and then people started screaming, ‘Kanye! Kanye! Go do it!’ Okay, that didn’t really happen. These were voices in my head,” West told Ryan Seacrest during his KIIS FM radio show Wednesday morning. “So the voices in my head told me go and then I just walked up like halfway up the stage.”

All in all, West admitted that his stage rushing was initially meant to be a joke that would conjure up memories of his 2009 encounter with Swift, who, like Beck, won an award over Beyoncé. Ultimately, West’s respect for Beck won out.

“What I really wanted to do [was] just joke around about what had happened before, but I just really didn’t want to take away from Beck’s moment or the time he’s having to talk,” West said. “The Grammys, they play music really quick no matter who you are and everything. So I didn’t want anything to take away from his screen time.”

Despite the on-air hijinks, West wouldn’t be who he is without a true display of how really he felt about Beck’s Grammy win. And while he did air out his opinion on E!, don’t expect West to feel bad about expressing himself. To hear him tell, it all boiled down to having a suitable chance to say what he felt needed to be said.

“I was asked my opinion and I was given a platform. And when given a platform, it’s very hard as we know – and I’m going to talk in third person like I’m a crazy person – but it’s very hard for Kanye West to not be very true and vocal to what he feels,” West stated. “You know, it’s like people take the Grammys for granted in a way because of the commercials, because a lot of the musicians are very rich and everything, but this is our Super Bowl.”

As bold as West was, even he admitted that his comment that Beck should “respect artistry” was a “mis-wording.” To show that there’s no hard feelings, West even extended an olive branch with hopes he and Beck can “still go play basketball and stuff.”

Judging by Beck’s response, West’s actions were nothing to get alarmed about. like

“I was so excited he was coming up! He deserves to be on that stage,” the singer-songwriter told reporters Sunday. “You can’t please everybody. I still love him and think he’s genius.”
