Larry Wilmore Apologizes For ‘Bossy’ Mention of Black Women

larry wilmore*Larry Wilmore is making amends for a recent “Keep it 100” segment on “The Nightly Show” which found him asking his panel of guests if black women are too “bossy” to marry.

The Comedy Central host weighed in on the furor caused by the segment by reminding viewers that the segment should not be taken seriously at all since it was only a humorous segment.

“Like I said, it was a joke,” Wilmore stated. “But I get it. Some people thought we were picking on black women. We were not, black women. You guys know we love you. I was raised by a single black woman.”

“But, I’m sorry,” added the funnyman, who revealed he would do another panel show later this month featuring four black moms.

Wilmore’s apology follows the reaction of viewers who took to Twitter to express their displeasure of the “Keep it 100” segment. During the segment in question, Wilmore asked his guests to “keep it 100” on a question he asked regarding black women’s bossiness. The guest list, which included New York Times columnist Charles Blow, all responded with “weak tea.”

“I’m not doing that,” Blow said when Wilmore tried to get him to give him a rating between one and 10.

“It better not be under five,” Wilmore joked.

The following are the tweets posted in response to Wilmore’s “bossy” comment on black women:

“If some of you are still upset about this, please send your suggestions to @Common,” Wilmore joked. “I’ll be honest with you, I don’t know why I let Common talk me into that one, that one’s on me.”
