*David Banks, the entertainment veteran most know as Richard Pryor’s comedy writer, passed away on Saturday, February 21 of heart failure at a San Fernando Valley, California hospital. He was 82.

In addition to writing comedy, the multi-talented Banks was a music producer, writer and actor. During his career he also consulted comedians such as Eddie Griffin, Mike Epps, Chris Tucker and many more.

David Banks – a native of Jackson, Mississippi – started working as an executive in the music industry shortly after he graduated from college, working for multiple entertainment companies including Columbia Records and Warner Bros.
