*Today on TV One’s News One Now, Columbus Short spoke with host and managing editor Roland S. Martin via Skype to promote his first television project since leaving Scandal.  Short co-stars in the second installment of TV One’s horror anthology Fear Files, which premieres tonight, Friday, March 13 at 8pm.

(The entire interview can be seen here: Part I, Part II)

During the conversation, Short thanked Martin for being a supporter during the troubled months following his departure from Scandal remarking, “….let me tell you Roland, humbly thank you sir, for being a real mentor and real leader in the African American community and supporting me all through this year. Your support has been unwavering from the time we started Scandal, through all of my own scandal and I just want to say thank you.”

Short spoke on his co-starring role in TV One’s  horror anthology Fear Files, saying, “It is not about (doing) horror. What Cathy Hughes (executive producer) is, she wants to evolve us as a people. It is important for me if I’m an entertainer to be on the front line of the products and the content that is representing us, being delivered to us, and being consumed by us. I bought into what Fear Files was, because it is telling real stories through ways that are going to affect us.

He also responded to comments from former Scandal cast members made at a recent Hollywood event, commenting, “I dream about them. When I was with them for 3 ½ years, 17 hours a day, Monday-Friday.  I spent more time with them then I did my actual family at the current time…and you know it’s hard, I miss them. You know, it’s hard for me to watch the show…but what I heard this week, its’ like that moment where, they are my family and I knew they were always that…just the way Kerry answered the question shows what Gladiators is.”

Finally, he spoke on redemption and turning his life around revealing, “I was so ‘Richie Rich’ and spoiled,…I haven’t used a vacuum in six years until I got to Atlanta. That’s embarrassing…God has taken me through this season for a very specific reason…The second chance is a blessing…as an African-American male in Hollywood, you do not get an opportunity to come back from cocaine addiction, accusations of being a domestic violent man…I am not Charlie Sheen…I am grateful for the opportunity and humbled with how I have to deal with it moving forward.”
