*While some people see Rodner Figueroa’s remarks about First Lady Michelle Obama looking “like she’s from the cast of ‘Planet of the Apes’” as racist, Raven-Symoné feels different.

While serving as a guest host on “The View,” Symoné defended the fired Univision host as she questioned whether or not Figueroa’s comments were “racist-like,” despite an incensed response to the situation from one of the show’s regular hosts, Rosie Perez.”

“He did say Michelle Obama looks like a cast member of the ‘Planet of the Apes,’” said Perez, who labeled what Figueroa said as undeniably racist.

“But was he saying it ‘racist-like?’” Symoné interrupted. “Because [Figueroa] did say he voted for [Michelle] later and I don’t think he was saying it racist.”

“Oh please!” Perez shot back. “That’s like saying, ‘I’m not a racist, but I have black friends.”

Comedian Michelle Collins later weighed in on the situation as she implied Figueroa’s comments were more “stupid” than racist. From there, Perez maintained her stance as she came back into the conversation.

“I am the Latin person here on this table,” Perez said. “And I would like to tell you that it was racist.”

Symoné came back in her own unique way as she continued to make her case for Figueroa.

“Michelle don’t fire me for this,” Symoné stated while getting the feeling that what she was about to say would come out the wrong way. “But some people look like animals. Is that rude? I look like a bird… so can I be mad at somebody that calls me ‘Toucan Sam?’”

Symoné’s exchange with Perez comes days after Univision terminated Figueroa last week as a result of what he said about Obama. To hear Symoné’s remarks in full, check out the video below at about the 8 min. mark:
