“Empire” was targeted over the weekend with a fake promo for the series promising a new character that would attract white viewers…Chip, the office manager.
Kenan Thompson played Terrence Howard as Lucious Lyon, stating in Howard’s shaky voice, “This is my kingdom. As long as I’m alive it will stand. Also, I’m dying.”
Sasheer Zamata was Taraji P. Henson’s Cookie Lyon. When Chip asks the folks at Empire Records, “Does anybody do any work around here?” Cookie throws something at him before demanding, “Take a dip, Chip!”
Michael Che played Bryshere Gray’s Hakeem, rapping his “Drip, Drop, Drip Drippity Drop,” but not knowing what it means. “What am I saying? What am I saying? Seriously…”
Leslie Jones killed it as Cookie’s loyal assistant Porsha while Jay Pharaoh played Jussie Smollett’s Jamal, who is again beaten with a broom by his mother as she yells, “I want some respect!”
Right on cue Chip, played by guest host Chris Hemsworth walks in and sees the altercation, then backs out unnoticed, opting not to mess with Cookie.
