*Toya Graham, the Baltimore mother of six who went viral on Monday for snatching her 16-year-old son away from a line of teens throwing rocks at police, appeared Wednesday on “CBS This Morning” to take us through her thoughts.
Graham said her son told her Sunday night that a group would be meeting at a mall Monday afternoon to protest the death of Freddie Bell, he 25-year-old black man who suffered a severed spine and crushed voice box while in police custody and died a week later. Graham said she made a bee line to the mall when she heard that schools were closing early.
At the mall, she saw police and helicopters. She stood on the same side of the street as police with shields as teens threw bricks at the officers.
“I was like in awe. It was like, ‘oh my God’ … to see my son come across the street with a rock in his hand. I think at that point I just lost it,” she said.
Cameras captured the moment she confronted and smacked her son all the way toward the parking lot. The video went viral.
