The moviemaker set the record straight on the gossip while chatting with E! News Tuesday (April 21) at the premiere of the new HBO documentary “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck” in Los Angeles.
“We’re great friends,” Ratner told E!. “I’m directing her video. I’ve been friends with her for 20 years.”
Although he confirmed that there wasn’t any romance with Carey, Ratner wasn’t at all shaken by all the chatter.
“It makes me laugh actually,” he said. “It cracks me up. We’re great friends. She’s awesome and she’s amazing.”
Ratner’s comments come after talk spread about him dating Carey after they were seen shopping together in St. Barts about three weeks ago. The rumors continued heating up when they followed the shopping up with a joint birthday celebration.
Since her split with Nick Cannon in August after being married for six years, Carey has been single.
Professionally, the singer is gearing up to kick off her residency in Las Vegas next month at The Coliseum at Caesars Palace after announcing the new gig in January. In addition, the songstress has signed a deal to return to Sony Music with L.A. Reid at Epic Records.
